Who are we ?

Historically, Mission Spider shows a particular focus on the Arachnids, who remain the heart of our passion and work.

However, thanks to the members involved and the professional background of each, we can diversify our activities of inventories: Entomology, Herpetology, Botany, Pedology (and soon biomonitoring/ acoustics)... ;

As well as our productions: naturalistic illustrations following various techniques, from macrophotography to drone shot, realization of educational support, ...

Founders of Mission Spider

Marine TRILLAT

In terms of my career path, I worked for two years as a study engineer. First in molecular biology and metabarcoding (protocol optimization, DNA sequencing), then in a R&D team (research and development) on the impact of renewable energies on biodiversity, modelling ecological connectivity and biomonitoring.

Currently based in Guiana, I joined the Biodiversity Protection Unit of the DGTM (Directorate General of Territory and the Sea) in December 2021 as a Protected Areas Officer. I am, among other things, in charge of the administrative and financial management of the national nature reserves (NRNs) of Guiana and other protected areas (BPA...).

Within the association, I contribute to the search for funding, the drafting of responses to calls for projects and deliverables and participates in the field sessions, as well as the logistical organization of expeditions.

Lilou LEONETTI

My fascination with Nature since I was young pushed me to study ecology, I did from 2017 to 2019 a BTSA Management and Protection of Nature during which will take place the first expedition of the association: Hong Kong, and my internship: the first Martinique expedition.

The BTSA is followed by a gap year where I return to work in Martinique at the Caribbean Agro-Environmental Campus (CAEC) within the UMR GECO (CIRAD) on the diversity of arthropods in banana plantations and forests.

I continue from 2020 to 2021 on a bachelor’s degree in Naturalistic Expertise of Environments, specialization Tropical Ecosystems, which brought me to Guyana where I worked on Beetles within the Entomological Society Antilles-Guyana. I joined for a time the collections of the National Museum of Natural History, as a technician of patrimonial collection, allowing me to develop my skills in collection management.

I specialized in the study of the Salticidae family, while being a general entomologist. I also make watercolor illustrations, macrophotography and I manage our collections.

I am the paperwork officer of the association, and I manage most of its administrative and management points.

I realized a BTSA Gestion and Protection of Nature, followed by a professional license MINA management and diagnosis of natural environments. Passionate about botany and entomology since always, I work on spiders since 10 years, I realized an inventory in Taiwan. Following a civic service in a naturalist association, I am currently employed by the Aude Water Union.

I also participate in the improvement of knowledge on french spiders by working with different nature reserves and conservatories mainly in the Alps, Auvergne and Franche-Comté.

Arachnology (Scorpions)

Holder of a bachelor’s degree in ecology from the University of Montpellier, I now continue my studies in Master of applied research for conservation (RAINET'), with the aim of directing me towards the professions of ecological sciences. At the same time, I aspire to improve our knowledge of biological diversity, ecosystem roles, and the conservation of a particular taxa: Arachnids. For as long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated by these little-known animals, whose appearance is so foreign and exotic and yet so close to Man when the impromptu encounters in our homes arouse panic, fear, repulsion and sometimes fascination. My activities around arachnology concern mainly naturalistic observation in the South of France and abroad, keeping in captivity, disseminating knowledge to the general public and increasingly, collection of specimens for knowledge of known species and for the description of new species.

Myrmecology and Evolution

Often wandering, I was a student in Master of Evolutionary Biology and Ecology at the University of Montpellier. My passion led me to study the diversity and evolution of ants through various research projects.

In my work, I mainly study the evolutionary history of the different ant lines and the characteristics that may have contributed to social transitions.

Brice DEREPAS

Head of the "Reunion" branch - Arachnology

Arachnologist and General Entomologist. I have been interested in Reunion Island spiders since my first trip in August 2014.

Passionate about macrofauna since my youngest age and especially by the Arachnids that I have been raising and studying for fifteen years. It is quite natural that I have taken this path.

Thanks to my professional career and my travels, I have acquired a good knowledge on macrofauna and everything related to the field of nature in general, agriculture, agroecology. in Europe as well as in the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean.

Grégory CAZANOVE

Arachnology

Araneologist at the Natural History Museum of Reunion since 2008, I carry out entomological and arachnological prospections in the islands of the Indian Ocean (Mayotte, Scattered Islands, etc.).

Trained by the french arachnologist Jean-Claude LEDOUX, I deepened my knowledge of arachnology and published several articles in specialized scientific journals. I co-wrote the book «à la découverte des araignées de la Réunion», the first book focused on the island’s spiders since Auguste Vinson with his book of the time «Aranéides des Îles de La Réunion, Maurice et de Madagascar» published in 1863. Often feared, spiders are often victims of prejudices that contribute to their bad reputation. So I want to discover and change the way I look at this fascinating silky world.

Antoine BAGLAN

Photography

Originally from Burgundy, I began macrophotography in 2009 near Nancy. Arrived in Guiana in 2010, I became seasonal for the Kwata association, then manager of the Pripris de Yiyi natural site for two years. For the next three years, I was in charge of mission at the Biotope Research Bureau for which I carried out inventories of Guyanese fauna for impact studies. I became president of the Guyane Wild Fish association, before spending a year in 2016 serving the Kaw-Roura National Nature Reserve as a scientific assistant to the curator.

Today I work in the Eco-Med Indian Ocean design office on Reunion Island where I turned to arthropod photography.

Guillaume DELAITRE

Co-head of the "Guiana" branch - Biostatistics and Bioacoustics

I share the responsibility of the branch "Guiana" with Marine Trillat, which it is preferable to contact for any question, because my work often leads me to be cut off from the networks.

An engineer in biostatistics and passionate about the biodiversity of the tropical forests, I am now a scientific mission officer for the Nouragues reserve in Guyana.

I participate in the association’s projects by offering support for protocol optimization and statistical analysis of inventories.

Baptiste BENTAMEUR

Macrophotography & Myrmecology

Looking for the slightest movement, I have been passionate about insects, and especially ants, since my childhood. With my travels and experiences in terraristic, I came to study the Ants and their behaviors, initially for their taste qualities (the good taste of "hazelnut"), then, of course, for their biology/ ecology, whether in their natural environment or my home.

I have spent many years maintaining and breeding different species of ants, documenting their behavior, feeding and methods to see them evolve ex situ. The farms also help me in my primary activity of self-entrepreneur: macro-photography. Activity by which I illustrate of my talent some expeditions and documents of the association, like the Guide of the Spiders of the Bananeraies of Martinique!
